ELIPSE

Composed of two cinematographic projections (16mm) and a series of photographs, the ELIPSE installation presented the deconstruction of an architectural complex of an old railway station located in the interior of the state of São Paulo (Brazil). We appropriated the geometric figure of the ellipse to simultaneously represent both its source foci and its irregular circular figure, curve of gravitational motion. In ELIPSE, there are luminous projections of two 16 mm film strips spliced in looping, the origin of the images that appear in infinite movement: a first person view of a tiled floor plan, and the shadow of a passer-by that floats over the station ticket office. ELIPSE denotes disappearance, absence and lack of memory. The work fragments the materiality of the public space to show its own state of abandonment.
